linea aspera was widest at its lower one-third. In majority of bones the lateral ridge was the most prominent, and the largest nutrient foramen of femur was most commonly located at the level of proximal one-third of linea aspera.

The linea aspera is a longitudinally-oriented ridge on the posterior aspect of the femur to which several muscles of the thigh attach. It is comprised of medial and lateral lips which diverge at both its superior and inferior ends. La línea áspera es una región anatómica del fémur que forma parte del borde posterior de la parte central del hueso. Además debido a que ocupa un gran espacio sirve como un lugar de inserción para los músculos de las piernas. Vídeo sobre Línea áspera LÍNEA ÁSPERA | Qué es, qué musculos se insertan, ubicación y fractura Four CT cuts were done of the mid femur, and we measured the angle of rotation of the linea aspera at each cut. RESULTS: The linea aspera was externally rotated in most femora evaluated; average angles of rotation were 15.4°, 14°, 11.7°, and 11.5° at 10, 15, 20, and 25 cm from the intercondylar line, respectively. PURPOSE: The linea aspera can be used as a landmark to assess the rotation of the distal femoral epiphysis when performing an endoprostheses.

On the medial, proximal, posterior part of the femur is another (smaller ridge) known as the pectineal line. It acts as the point of attachment for the pectineus muscle. The most pronounced part of the posterior surface is the linea aspera.

We therefore asked whether the linea aspera could be used as a rotational landmark for positioning distal femoral knee megaprostheses. MATERIALS: This is an anatomic MRI-based study of 50 femurs (27 subjects).

Medical definition of linea aspera: a longitudinal ridge on the posterior surface of the middle third of the femur. In a study on iliotibial tract, the tract was attached to the femur along the linea aspera from the greater tronchanter to, and including, the lateral epicondyle of the femur by coarse fibrous bands.7 Linea aspera has important prominence which protects the femur against bending when bearing the stresses and loads.
